Morocco, Villa RS

Architect Mohamed Lahlou Kitane oversaw the design for this private residence located in the heart of a Casablanca residential district. The concept arose from a contemporary reinterpretation of Moroccan architectural language and reflects the extensive project research and environmental sensitivity that distinguish the designer’s work. 

Reminiscent of traditional homes arranged around a central patio, the plan embraces a lush garden visually integrated with the indoor spaces, thanks to large floor-to-ceiling windows. The home also opens toward the exterior greenery, allowing natural light to abundantly illuminate all of the interior spaces. 

The facade features a narrow perimeter ledge that accentuates the volumes of the house, echoing the horizontal lines of the neighboring traditional villas. An interplay of solids and voids lends depth and rhythm to the body of the building, while fluidly shaping the living spaces. The material choices combine concrete, wood, and metal, enhancing the contemporary character of the villa while maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere. 

The home’s interior is designed around a lightweight, sculptural staircase that is the focal point of the space and its airy architectural showpiece. 

The bright ground-floor living area enjoys visual and chromatic continuity with the outdoor garden. Here – in perfect harmony with his architectural vision – the interior design and, in particular, the Flexform furniture, was selected by Mohamed Lahlou Kitane in collaboration with Flexform Casablanca JK Contracting to furnish the spaces. 

Two Adda stand-alone sofas, upholstered in elegant green fabric, define the central space, in true accord with the wood structure and woven paper rush cord backrests and seats of a pair of Tessa armchairs, and the Magi bench in tobacco color leather with metal structure. A generously proportioned Desco coffee table with wood top and a Jiff console round out the decor. 

An elegant dining room adjoins the living area, while the upper floor incorporates the owner’s sleeping space, including bathroom, bedroom and walk-in wardrobes. A spacious daylight basement hosts a comfortable, inviting play area for children.
