USA, New York

The recently opened Aman New York quickly acquired a reputation as the most exclusive hotel in the Big Apple.

It is located on the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, in the legendary Crown Building built in 1921 and designed by architects Warren & Wetmore, whose portfolio also includes the city’s Helmsley Building and Grand Central Station.

The impressive renovation project, designed to make the Aman New York an authentic “urban sanctuary”, kept the building’s ancient splendor intact while transforming it into a contemporary oasis of immeasurable charm. The hotel offers its guests a unique experience, as do the other 33 Aman hotels and resorts around the world.

On the 14th floor, a majestic soaring atrium immediately conveys a sense of magnificence. It connects the areas for socializing, designed by Jean Michel Gathy of the prestigious Denniston studio, specialized in designing innovative super-luxurious hospitality concepts.

Among the restaurants, Nama offers a sophisticated Aman interpretation of the washoku tradition. Selected to complement the elegant wood countertop were the Gelsomina bar stools designed by Antonio Citterio, as were the Gelsomina chairs chosen for the dining room.

The 83 extremely spacious suites take their design cues from the concepts found in other Aman properties in Southeast Asia. The atmosphere here is muted and calm. Everything is designed to radiate a sense of well-being and sophisticated elegance. Each suite has a see-through fireplace that divides the bedroom from the living area, both of which share magnificent views of the city.

Pieces were drawn from the vast Flexform collection to furnish some of the most impressive suites – Cestone sofas with cowhide backrests and armrests are paired with Tosca armchairs, Bangkok ottomans and a Happy chaise longue.
